Basilica di San Marco

These four pictures are of the exterior of the Basilica di San Marco. It was a great church. The insides were decorated with excellent mosiacs. Unfortunately they didn't allow cameras inside - maybe this will give a an idea of what it was like inside.

The quiet canals of Venice

These four pictures are of canals; not a person in sight. They must have all been in San Marco Square, playing with the pigeons.

One day in Venice

These three pictures represent a typical day in Venice.

A boat ride along the canals to Murano to see exquisite glass being made. (For an example of Murano glass try this: Murano glass)

Photographing the photographers

I took pictures of people taking pictures in San Marco Square.

There are at least 10 people in this picture either taking or reviewing a shot. Of more interest to me, though, is the question posed in the blowup after this picture...

... and that question is, "which better exemplifies Italian fashion, the guy in the foreground with the blue shoes, or the guy with the yellow hat and the technicolor purse?"

What's surprising here is that they got this much space for their picture. I wonder what it looked like with that pose...

...I have not idea what they were up to.

The three people in the background are eating gelato - yum!

Good technique.

Flying Rats

There were pigeons all over San Marco Square. In fact, we read instructions on what to do if one pooped on you (let it dry and flake it off, otherwise you'll just smudge it). In spite of the risk of bird flu and avian cooties people had to get their pictures taken with them. Gross.

Venice Canals

Here are a couple of pictures of canals in Venice. In the second picture you get to play "Where's Waldo" with Carol

What looks to be a government building (I see the EU flag).

Gelato in Venice

Here's the first picture of our trip to Italy. We're doing what we do; eating gelato for dinner. This was in San Marco square in Venice
